FAQ's

  • Pioneer Lodge is a private community, and we ask all visitors to respectfully follow community protocols.

Visitors are welcome daily, provided arrangements are made with the resident. Visits can take place in indoor common areas, outdoor spaces, or in the resident’s suite.

Pioneer House visiting hours are 10am-7pm daily outdoor areas or in suite only. To prioritize the health and well-being of the residents and care partners, guests are expected to follow all posted public health measures. In the event of an illness outbreak, social visits may be temporarily limited to protect everyone in our community. While general visits can be postponed without impacting a resident’s well-being, essential visitors—those providing direct care—may still be permitted based on the severity of the outbreak. In certain cases, essential visits may be further limited to urgent or end-of-life care to ensure the highest level of safety for all. See AB Health for current facility visitation rules.

  • According to direction from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, essential visitors are defined as including a person performing essential support services e.g. food delivery, inspector, maintenance, or health care services, or a person visiting a resident who is very ill or requires end-of-life care. Essential visitors provide direct care to a resident and must use a surgical/procedure mask while in the home. Pioneer can facilitate a maximum of two (2) Essential Visitors per resident.

  • Retirement home residents who wish to go outside of the home (e.g., absences with friends or family, shopping, medical appointments, family homes, restaurant, etc.) are permitted to do so. Families should consider the risks to their loved one if they are in crowds or with other family members who may not be vaccinated. Speak with the Resident or the Guardian directly to arrange outings, Pioneer is not a long-term living facility and direction or decisions are up to the resident or guardian. Overnight outings will not require isolation unless the destination was a hospital.

  • Due to the likelihood of someone being ill within the environment of a hospital, the facility may suggest an isolation period in cases where a contact with a transferrable illness may have occurred. A rapid covid test is available upon request or may be offered.

  • Residents are encouraged to wear masks and maintain physical distance, particularly if the resident was recently ill. Residents are independent and make their own decisions and contribute to safe community use in all common use areas.

  • Continuous masking is required during an outbreak which includes the use of other personal protective equipment such as gowns, eye shields, and gloves as necessary. Hand washing audits and rapid testing are additional measures to protect residents and staff.

  • If an outbreak is declared; Group social activities, and group events, are replaced with interactive activity. Pioneer is generally prohibited from facilitating the Salon and community social areas during an Outbreak.

  • At this time, Pioneer Lodge continues to accept applications for residency; however, we do not offer impromptu tours out of respect for the residents’ privacy and their home environment. Drop off an application and expect to receive a phone call to schedule a tour of the next available room. Pioneer House does not accept applications for residency and will not provide tours at this time.
